Around the World
- Outcome A (7-9)-10
Organize the students in partners and ensure that
every student has a badminton racquet. One partner is "A",
and the other is "B".
Have all the "A" students line up behind
the baseline of one side of the court. All the "B" students
line up on the opposite side. There should be one student at the
end of each baseline.
How to Play
- The first "A"
player in line serves the shuttle to a "B" player on
the opposite side.
- As "B" is
returning the shuttle with a clear, the first "A" player
runs under the net at the far right side to join the "B"
players.
- When the first "B"
player returns the shuttle, that "B" player runs to
the right of the court and under the net to join the "A"
side.
- If any player misses
the shuttle or fails to clear the shuttle, he or she goes to the
next court and starts a new round of the game.
The object of the game
is to remain on the first court for as long as possible and to be
one of the two remaining players practicing clears. This game never
ends, as students move onto the next court when they miss a shot
on the previous court.
Students can return to
the first court once they have reached the last court. Or, tell
the students that once they reach the third court there are no more
"outs". Instead they continue to practice on the final
court until the teacher calls the time limit.
As they become more proficient, students can perform
smashes, drives, and net shots as well as clears.
As a continuation of the game, all players can
return to the original court and play a timed round.
These
are clues that you have reached the outcomes ...
Students refine and practice their clear shots.
The clears are high and deep enough, indicating
that the drill is working as intended.
